scenery is definitely one of your many strengths

this one is fantastic, the wreck is what makes this piece but it's your attention to all the little details in the surrounds that provide the immersion

Cheers :ahoy:
Yeah I'd neglected scenery for a long time, so I am having fun getting back into it recently. When I do this stuff it's like another world comes into focus before me as I work from the rough shapes to the tiny details.

Curious, but how many hours were in this speedpaint?

Great pic, mate. The background wreckage really stands out as the focal point for me too. Cool effort with the path's texture and detail too.

Thanks! :)
For most of the image it was 3 hours (so not exactly lightning fast) and I added some tweaking time just before I uploaded it which could have been an hour, but that wasn't against the clock if you get my meaning. I'm trying to get faster though- those concept art guys are super fast.

lol, whatever happened to the ol' phrase, 'you can't rush art'? =P

Seriously, I'd be dead in the water trying to keep up with those concept art blokes. Sometimes I wonder if I'd fair better with a better comp and tablet, but I tend to focus too much on little details anyway that they'd likely overlook to get the bigger picture.

Yeah they have freaky skills- probably drink a lot of coffee!
I hate to think how I'd cope without my A4 wacom tablet, so upgrade to one of those if you can.

Like you I'm into rendering fine details and that slows me down a lot. But I've been looking at how the pros do it and they seem to 'suggest' details with textured custom brushes and so on.
I think speed painting is a good way to lay down a rough composition for a longer piece before getting into the details.

Aye, that is one way of looking at it. Still, sometimes I feel I'd rather draw something without relying on brush sets. Just feel it lacks a certain charm found in pure freehand.

Whimsical. Why does that word seem so perfect for this piece, hmmmmmm... I guess I feel whimsical whilst engaging in my mental stroll down that path. Great work mate, let's see more speed painted landscapes!

Cheers buddy! I gonna try and explore the whole landscape thing a bit more. I might even take the more successful efforts into 3D.
